A reader sent this link to a video exposing the CMRI sect — the direct descendant of Francis Schuckhardt’s original group — and it provides a documented history of the scandalous roots of this organization, its progress through various stages over the years and its present-day status. While the CMRI’s doctrinal stance is the most objectionable and automatically disqualifies this sect as Catholic, it is important for those who are now attending its services or are considering joining its ranks to know in advance ALL of the dangers to their souls, as experienced by others. Missing from the video, however, is any mention of the latest explosive revelations regarding the Masonic infiltration of not only the CMRI, but virtually every LibTrad sect in existence. This was revealed in the blog HERE in 2025. Quotes from this blog follow below:
“The CMRI pseudo-bishop Mark Pivarunas, (“consecrated” by the Mexican Thuc bishop Moises Carmona), received an official letter on March 1, 2024, confirming the Masonic origins of the priests serving Traditionalists in Mexico. This jaw-dropping revelation from one of Pivarunas own “priests” seems not to have been addressed by Pivarunas publicly, as a search of the CMRI site shows no mention of the organization, (Los TECOS), in question. While the letter does date the existence of Los TECOS to the early 1900s, it fails to mention that this sect was well known to Fr. Joaquin Saenz y Arriaga, the founder of sedevacantism, who served as chaplain for the group in the 1950s-60s. The translator of one of Arriaga’s works, The New Montinian Church, was quoted in the article HERE, describing Arriaga as a member of yet another secret society common to Traditionalists, this one better geared to the Caucasian population: the Sovereign Order of St. John, Knights of Jerusalem (OSJ).

In 1965, at a private meeting in the house of Anacleto González Guerrero (son of the Cristero martyr Anacleto González Flores), Los TECOS leaders proposed the motion that Paul VI (Giovanni Montini) was a crypto-Jew and an illegitimate Pope, that this line should be officially adopted as the position of Mexican traditionalists.” Arriaga also was the author of a widely quoted collaborative work enthusiastically endorsed and sold across the Internet by all manner of Traditionalist groups — The Plot Against the Church, by “Maurice Pinay.” (Anacleto González Guerrero, who corresponded with this author in the early 1980s as Anacleto Gonzalez Flores, later claimed to have written the bulk of the book for Saenz.)

To their credit, after being ignored by Pivarunas and the LibTrad clergy in general, Vergaro-Monroy and Borja made this document available to the public. Apparently, it has not been circulated widely, or more would be aware of it today. The only results of a Google search for Los Tecos is the blog article referenced above. In the CMRI cult video, the video creators refer to “Freemasonry conspiracy theories,” which reveals a serious flaw in their knowledge of the faith. For it is the modern-day powers that be who wish us to believe that Freemasonry is just a much maligned, beneficent organization like any other. The popes to whom we owe obedience in order to be saved and remain members of the Catholic Church order us to believe that Freemasonry is indeed a conspiracy to destroy the Church and topple governments worldwide. And they have taught this since 1738. So were the video creators simply in error regarding Freemasonry, or was it an attempt to defuse the Los Tecos allegations? Because in warning people off the CMRI those doing the warning must redirect them somewhere, although there is no indication in the video of where that may be. The Novus Ordo? SSPV? The SSPX? Independents? These are their only other options, none of which are Catholic or valid.
I have personal knowledge of the early days of the Lefebvre operation in St. Mary’s Kansas, testified to by various exiles from that cult over a period of many years. The 1980s were the heyday of the Society of St. Pius X’s “Fr.” Hector Bolduc and even then there were documented incidents of abuse, mistreatment and strange teachings issuing from the pulpit. I know personally of two young men who suffered sexual abuse by priests while at St. Mary’s, families whose children were emotionally and physically harmed, families who after contributing large amounts of money were “dismissed” from the Society, pseudo-clergy who openly spread hatred for the Jews, (this was a matter of public knowledge) and displayed a prepper neo-Nazi mentality, SSPX members who reported abuses they observed in what they believed to be the celebration of the Mass and Sacraments and much more. This has continued now for over 50 years.
Probably the most notable event in recent history was the 2009-2010 scandal as the SSPX’s St. Gertrude the Great in Ohio. Allegations there ranged from alleged inappropriate sexual behavior between a priest and a bishop, defamation, giving scandal, favoritism, misappropriation of funds, mismanagement of the church school and other moral violations. After two years of rival allegations the incident was so successfully erased from search engines that scarcely any trace can be found that it ever occurred. This smooths the way for future generations to enter without any warning of what went before. An article HERE explains that the SSPX has “a decades long” history of reported sexual abuse.

Why I left the SSPX
My family and I departed from the Novus Ordo in 1975 because we realized that it was not the religion in which we grew up. I personally investigated the SSPX in Armada, Michigan. Anthony Ward was the man in charge. I personally met and discussed the situation with Father Oscar J. LaPlante, S.J. who had been a Theology and Philosophy professor at the University of Saint Louis and Xavier University in Cincinnati. He was there in Armada, Michigan for a short stay.
I went to confession to him and attended his Masses. He would regularly from the pulpit criticize Paul VI and tell the truth about John XXIII, the first two anti-popes. He would not listen to Archbishop Lefebvre and Anthony Ward who told him to stop calling them anti-popes and to stop criticizing them. There were many difficulties with the SSPX operation there in Michigan, political entanglements and confusion… pope in chains theory, etc. Clarence Kelly was there, too. Before long, it became obvious that the SSPX was an amateur group operating in the Detroit Diocese without legitimate authority. Therefore, they had no jurisdiction.
In all of the masses offered by the SSPX, the names of the current anti-pope in Rome and the local Ordinary, the bishop of the local diocese, are mentioned in the canon of the mass. The mass they use is that of John XXIII of 1962, as approved by Rome. That is additional evidence that they are adhering to Rome. There were constant arguments among the groups. This we have found with all traditionalist groups. There is no unity, one key necessary mark of the Church.
We have had our short terms with traveling priests which also led to certain difficulties, mainly jurisdiction and disagreements with Catholic theology. In 1983, we, my parents and I, decided to stay home to practice our Faith as it was taught to us. We say the daily Rosary and read the Bible every night. We say our daily and Sunday Mass prayers in Latin and in English using our 1944, 1953 and 1957 Saint Andrew’s Missals that we had always used. We have learned to avoid any groups such as SSPX and are in touch with Catholics around the world who do the same. We regularly hear of SSPX people who lash out at Catholics who hold the Faith as we do. We avoid such individuals, as we consider them a danger to our Faith. Snippy comments such as “Are you your own pope…”, etcetera, show us the substance of the person making the criticism.
The current pope recognized by the SSPX is Benedict XVI. Ratzinger has been a heretic along with his close friend and comrade John Paul II for years and years back before Vatican II. The SSPX supplies the nostalgic charm that so many desire, the Latin, the Gregorian Chant, the attractive vestments and rubrics and all of the exterior trappings. However, the SSPX is the equivalent of the High Anglicans of the Church of England. SSPX may hold to many traditions as they also do, however the SSPX is still a “traditional” arm of the Novus Ordo. Thank you, but we are not interested. Play with fire and you will be burnt. We have seen it too many times, over and over again. God is our judge and we do what we must do according to our properly formed Catholic consciences.
In addition, we live in a remote rural part of a state in the northeast. The nearest thing to us that an outsider would consider the Latin Mass… is about 40 minutes from here. There are no SSPX operations or other Latin Mass groups anywhere near here. There is no theological or logical sense in attending mass groups that present you with priests who most likely were not ordained properly, or bishops who were not consecrated according to Ecclesiastical Law. Any consecration of a bishop or ordination by a bishop requires an official papal mandate. There is no sense in attending masses which are most likely not true Masses. There is no sense in receiving sacraments which are illicit and most likely illegitimate. We were taught in Apologetics and in our Catholic education that where there is doubt to get out.
Forget about all of the empty excuses. For those in SSPX to say that we are not Catholic because we do not attend SSPX is obscene and absurd. It is like the pot calling the kettle black. We have always been Catholics and will remain so, despite their senseless accusations. We feel sorry for all of those who have become ensnared by the trappings of the so-called traditionalist groups, which are no more than mini religious cults and sects, loaded with disunity. We have never left our Catholic Church and will not. The Devil presents many temptations to join him in his deceptions. He deceives many to become Devil’s Disciples and Satan’s Servants. He is well aware of everyone’s individual weaknesses. We will not be part of his scheme. We will stay at home and pray as we have for the last 37 years.

Reading these entries alerts one to the fact that the people who have left these groups are truly fearful and enslaved by them. They even use this fear to justify continued attendance at their services to avoid being alienated from their own families. Over the years I have watched those chasing the LibTrads traipse all over this country and even overseas to find just the right group or priest who will finally fulfill their needs and measure up to their standards. And there they remain until the inevitable happens and “Father” so and so falls from his pedestal. Then the race is on for the next group, and the children are uprooted and the husband must find another job and the family must once again, for the umpteenth time, adjust its “Catholic” perspective. These are Trad types who must be known in their community as church-goers with children home-schooled or in private school. They revel in the baptisms, first communions, confirmations, weddings ad nauseum, with emphasis on the right clothing, the perfect gift, the best pose for the picture, “Father” in his vestments smiling in the background, Jimmy or Katy looking properly serious — in other words, it is all about theatre and appearances, the social aspect of religion.
Of course some of those in these LibTrad groups are quite sincere, and truly believe they are practicing Catholicism. But for the persons described above, what a sad, superficial existence. And what rubes these poor people remain, willing contributors to a religious organization (SSPX) whose net worth is estimated as “substantial” but “not publicly available.” And this is the case with other LibTrad groups as well. The herd mentality bred into past generations is so deeply ingrained that to deviate from an accepted group and forge one’s own path is almost considered mental derangement. And what is even more foreign to most people today, despite their relentless pursuit of secular knowledge, is the necessity of placing the study of Catholic dogma above all else and clinging only to Church teaching, not externals.
Thus Pope St. Pius X, and Pope Benedict XIV before him rightly taught: “We declare that the greater part of those who are damned have brought the calamity on themselves by ignorance of the mysteries of the faith, which they should have known and believed, in order to be united with the elect.” And from the Cure of Ars: “We shall find out at the day of judgement that the greater number of Christians who are lost are damned because they do not know their own religion.” It does not seem to matter how they are approached, how many times they are warned, the proofs they are offered, the prayers that are said. For their needs are so predominant their minds cannot properly function. Perhaps the links above will help someone see the truth. It is what we pray for each day, that all be given the light to see and the strength to stay the course.
